My friend Samir got me an awesome Christmas present last year, but until today it's just been sitting in a cardboard box in my room. Today, I got a MOMO E30 hub adapter, and was able to put the gift to work :)
Italvolanti Formel steering wheel - installed on Hanne, the new DD car!
As used in the E30 M3 DTM racers! WOOT! What a MASSIVE improvement over the stock 4-spoke wheel...Last edited by kingston; 05-03-2013, 08:49 PM.Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

In other news, I just sent money for a MASSIVE 300mm Sport Big Brake Kit for Siobhan, which addresses the question of just what the heck I was going to do to upgrade the brakes on this car!Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

Well, it turns out that one of the cylinders in the S52 is beyond salvage. Not the news that I wanted to hear, but there is a silver lining. My machinist is going to press a new sleeve in, then hone it to the same dimensions as the other 5 cylinders. The cost for the new sleeve? A trifling $130! THAT, I can live with!
Someday I'll be done with this thing...maybe!!Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

Last night I placed what should be my final order for the S52/ZF swap with Guten Parts. Here's the list of what I still needed:
Oil Pump Gasket - Oil Pump to Pickup Tube
Starter (Rebuilt) SSF/BOSCH - This is an E28 starter, to go with my E28 M 5 flywheel
Pilot Bearing (15 X 32 X 10)
Oil Pan Gasket - SSF/VICTORREINZ
Driveshaft Center Support with Bearing - Needed this for the 328 driveshaft. It's an E30 one.
Shift Tower Bushing - Shift Lever Pivot
Gasket - Water Flange on Back of Cylinder Head
Transmission Mount - Manual Transmission (2)
Piston Ring Set (86.415 mm, Standard) (6) - These are just oversized 'repair rings'
Spark Plug Hole Gasket for Valve Cover (2) - I already have the VC gasket itself
Brake Hose (front) - for Hanne, actually, since 1 of her hoses had some cracking...
Now I just need to get the refreshed block back from the Machine Shop!!Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

All the parts for the S52 rebuild should be here by Friday! The re-assembly starts next Monday night! I am getting SOOOOOO excited for this! With the Toyos, the coilovers, the MASSIVE Sport BBK, the ZF & the S52, on top of the mods I've already done to the car, she should be a freaking BLAST to drive!!!!!Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

Well, 2 little delays..
The new sleeve for the S52 had to be ordered, so the block won't be done until Monday. Which is OK, since it looks like the box of parts won't arrive until Monday, either! Unfortunately, during the week next week, I'll be helping Samir get his S52 together, and I won't be able to work on mine until the following week, most likely :(
Oh well...I've waited THIS long...what's another week...Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

A couple of little updates...
First, it turns out I didn't need a new sleeve for the block after all! And the total cost for the hone? $60! Thank you Charlie Williams!
Looks tasty!
The block is back at Bob's house now, and I ran down some parts for Bob to media blast and some other stuff we'll need for the build.
Freshly media-blasted timing cover
New piston rings, E28 starter, transmission guide plate...
The re-assembly of the motor starts next week! STAY TUNED!! :p
